After you sign up for a hosting package you will receive an email with technical information like your login name, password, DNS and other pertinent information.
Pay attention to the DNS (Domain Name Setting) info.
What is DNS for?
DNS tells the internet servers where your domain is hosted.
When a person wants to view your site and types your sites name in the browser (example:  www.marketingoverthenet.com). This request is forwarded to specialized servers with a huge database of all the registered domains. The server then finds the DNS of your site and directs the request to your host. The host then displays your site to the viewer.

DNS looks something like this:

NS1.HOSTMONSTER.COM
NS2.HOSTMONSTER.COM

Armed with the DNS information your head back to your account with your Domain Registrar. Look for “Domain Forwarding” (or similar) and enter this information in order to “point” your domain name to your website hosting server. It sounds more complicated then it is. Your host will guide you if you have any problems.
